The CPM government in Kerala is taking one decision after another against the central government. A few days ago, the Kerala government passed a bill against One Nation One Election and now it is going to bring a bill against the Waqf Amendment Bill as well. The Pinarayi Vijayan government will introduce the Waqf Amendment Bill in the Kerala Assembly today.
Four days ago, on October 10, a bill was introduced in the Kerala Assembly against One Country One Election. As the Chief Minister was not present in the Assembly, Parliamentary Affairs Minister MB Rajesh presented the proposal, which was approved.
A challenge to democratic rights
Parliamentary Affairs Minister M.B. Rajesh approved the resolution to reduce the tenure of states and local self-governing bodies which have not completed five years. It is challenging the ultimate rights of people in a democracy. It is an attack on the constitutional right of state governments to conduct elections to local self-government bodies. This is also an attack on the federal system of our country.
‘When there are other solutions…’
Kerala Parliamentary Affairs Minister MB Rajesh said destroying the federal system based on the Constitution would be a denial of the rights of the state government and local self-government when other common measures could be taken to reduce costs and simplify governance.
‘We are trying to implement the agenda’
Rajesh said that this is against the principles of the Constitution. We can see that this is an attempt to implement the RSS-BJP agenda of centralized governance. It is a process of democratic reform. The opposition suggested some amendments to the proposal. Some of them are accepted.
