In fact, on the evening of October 13, a Durga idol immersion procession was taking place from a community-owned area of Maharajganj town in Hardi area of Mahasi tehsil in Bahraich. What did the villagers say?
While the idol immersion procession was taking place from Maharajganj town in Mahasi tehsil to Rehua Mansoor village on Sunday, villagers said that some members of other communities objected to the DJ playing at the place. After that the dispute escalated and stone pelting and firing started. More than a dozen people were injured from the Hindu side.
The police station incharge and the out post incharge have been suspended
There is a situation in the district where DM and SP Brinda Shukla herself has to wear a helmet and come on the road. Late night police officials also reached the spot. DM Monika Rani said that 25 people have been included in the FIR and strict action will be taken against all those involved in violence. He said that the entire incident was videotaped and an investigation would be conducted to find out who was the unruly element and whose role was involved.
At the same time, the SP said that the in-charge of the police station and the in-charge of Mahasi outpost, who were negligent in their duties, have been suspended. They said that a thorough investigation is being conducted into the entire incident and no one will be spared. At present, the search for those who created the ruckus is going on.
But even after the action of the SP, the people of the area are still angry. It is said that the local police acted carelessly and lathi-charged the victims. During the violence, the police and the administration appeared to be on the backfoot. Such a big incident would not have happened if the preparations had been made in advance.
