Mikel Oyarzabal Leaves Spain’s Camp Due to Severe Ankle Sprain

Mikel Oyarzabal, the Real Sociedad forward, has departed from the Spanish national team’s training camp after sustaining a high-grade sprain in his left ankle. This injury occurred during the final moments of Spain’s match against Serbia.

The Spanish Football Federation announced this afternoon that Oyarzabal, who had been subbed in late during yesterday’s game in a bid to secure a winning goal, will not be replaced. The injury was confirmed to be a severe sprain, following an unfortunate collision with Serbian goalkeeper Predrag Rajković.

After undergoing medical examinations, the results have unfortunately confirmed the severity of the injury. Oyarzabal will return to San Sebastián, accompanied by a Federation doctor, to be assessed by Real Sociedad and to begin his rehabilitation process.

Luis de la Fuente, the Spanish national coach, expressed concern over the player’s condition during the press conference. He has decided not to call up a replacement for Oyarzabal. Spain’s upcoming Nations League match against Switzerland on Sunday in Geneva will proceed without an additional player being added to the squad.

Spain’s draw against Serbia has temporarily placed them third in Group 4 of League A, following Denmark’s 2-0 victory over Switzerland.
