After the Kosi water agitation in Bihar, the situation is continuously deteriorating. Several new areas were inundated on Monday, forcing people to evacuate their homes. Officials said the flood situation worsened in many parts of the state as the Kosi river in Darbhanga district and the Bagamati river in Sitamarhi rose in flow.
According to the report, the Kosi river was raging and its embankment broke near Kartarpur block, due to which the villages of Kirtarpur and Ghanshyampur in Darbhanga were submerged late on Sunday night, while the embankment of Bagmati river in Runni Saidpur block was submerged late on Sunday night. Sitamarhi district submerged.
The situation worsened as 7 embankments were cut
An official said that the flood situation worsened after the embankment broke, but it was under control and there was no need to panic. He said the state water resources and disaster management departments are working on a war footing.
Bihar Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary said that a total of 7 cases of embankment breaches have been reported so far from different parts of the state, some of which have already been repaired and others are in progress.
Due to high water pressure, the embankment of Bagmati river in Madhakaul village in Sitamarhi and Gandak river in West Champaran were breached, resulting in flooding in Valmiki Tiger Reserve, another official said.
The minister said.. ‘In Valmikinagar and Kiratpur in Darbhanga there were reports of water flowing over the embankments, but now the water level in many rivers has receded. No loss of life has been reported in Bihar so far due to the floods.
NDRF team reached Bihar from other states
He said that in view of the severity of floods in North Bihar, six more NDRF teams are being brought here from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh and Ranchi in Jharkhand.
15 teams of NDRF and 15 teams of State Disaster Management Authority (SDRF) have been deployed in the flood-affected districts for relief and relief operations, according to a bulletin issued by the Disaster Management Department on Monday.
Another official said, ‘Though the water level has receded in many small rivers, the overall situation is dire and more than 10 lakh people have been affected by the floods. No death has occurred so far. So far 16 districts, 55 blocks and 269 villages have been affected by floods.
Water has been released again from Birpur and Valmikinagar barrages
The Bihar government has issued flood warnings in the north, south and central parts of the state due to the huge release of water from the Birpur and Valmikinagar barrages on Saturday and Sunday. However, another official said that the release of water from Valmikinagar and Birpur barrages on Gandak and Kosi rivers has reduced this morning.
He said that while 5.62 lakh cusecs of water was released from Valmikinagar barrage on Sunday, 1.89 lakh cusecs of water was released till 8 am on Monday. Similarly, the release of 6.61 lakh cusecs of water from Birpur barrage on September 29, has reduced to 2.88 lakh cusecs by 8 am on Monday, officials said.
The condition of these districts is pathetic
The 16 affected districts of the state include West and East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Vaishali, Patna, Jehanabad, Madhubani, Araria, Purnia, Katihar and Bhojpur. The situation in these districts is worse.
The government is distributing relief materials
The government has so far distributed 30500 polythene sheets and 25600 dry ration packets to the flood affected people. 800 boats have been arranged to rescue the people caught in the floods and move them to the affected areas.
Doctors have been deputed in flood affected areas with sufficient medicines to protect the health of the people. 8 Boat Ambulances are also being operated in submerged areas on which Mobile Medical Teams are deployed. Arrangements were also made for veterinary treatment and fodder for the animals.
