A surprising news has come from Malappuram district in Kerala. Here, a two-year-old girl died of suffocation after an airbag deployed in a car accident. Police provided information about the incident on Sunday. The incident occurred on Friday evening, when the girl was traveling from Kottakkal to Padparambu along with her family members.
According to police, the car collided with a tanker. As a result of the collision the airbag suddenly opened. All this time, the face of the girl sitting in the front seat on her mother’s lap was buried in the airbag. Therefore he died of suffocation. Police said four other passengers including the mother suffered minor injuries.
What is an airbag?
Airbags are balloon-shaped covers made of strong fabric that are installed in front of the driver and passengers in the car. In the event of an accident, when the car stops suddenly or hits an object, the airbag quickly fills with air and inflates. These inflating airbags prevent the driver and passengers from being thrown forward, helping to protect them from serious injury.
How do airbags work?
If the vehicle has an accident, nitrogen gas that is installed in the SRS system will be filled into the airbag. This whole process takes place in a few seconds. After that the airbag will inflate and provide safety to passengers with better cushioning. Holes are provided in the airbags that allow gas to escape after use.
