Rejection of the Waqf Amendment Bill at JPC
Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind opposed the Waqf Amendment Bill in JPC. All opposition MPs boycotted the JPC meeting regarding the Waqf Amendment Bill. Opposition lawmakers were angry with Karnataka Minorities Commission Chairman Anwar Maniappadi’s words. Opposition lawmakers accused Anwar of not discussing the Waqf Amendment Bill, but other issues at the JPC meeting.
Opposition lawmakers on Monday boycotted the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) meeting on the Waqf Amendment Bill. The members alleged that Anwar Manipadi, former chairman of the Karnataka State Minorities Commission and Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation, did not express an opinion in the meeting regarding the Waqf Bill. He accused Anwar of leveling unnecessary allegations against the Karnataka government and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharga, which did not go down well with the committee and were unacceptable.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant also made a statement at this meeting. He admitted that he boycotted the meeting because the committee did not work according to principle. Sawant said, “We are boycotting because the committee is not following its principles and norms. Morally and ideologically, they are wrong.” Opposition MPs have decided to approach the Lok Sabha Speaker to discuss all their concerns regarding the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf Bill.
