The great competitor of the classic GoPro, or at least the action camera closest to it in its offer, DJI has launched a new version called the Osmo Action 5 Pro, which aims to compete with the recently launched GoPro Hero 13 Black, with features aimed at athletes and professional content creators.

Osmo Action 5 Pro is equipped with a next-generation 1/1.3 sensor that offers 13.5 stops of dynamic range, allowing you to capture images with a high level of detail in both dark and bright areas. It can record at 4K/60fps and the inclusion of advanced color profiles such as D-Log M and HLG gives content creators greater flexibility for color grading, ideal for achieving the cinematic look often desired in action videos.

If we compare both cameras with the same 4K resolution, the quality is similar, they have color adjustments, especially in HDR, but this is a matter of taste. Although the GoPro Hero 13 Black can record at 5.3K/60fps, with a higher maximum resolution, the Osmo sensor size performs better in low light in 4K Supernight mode.

As for the objective, it stands out with an ultra-wide field of 155º. This is where the GoPro wins with its interchangeable lenses and recording in 8:7 and 9:16, which gives it more versatility than the DJI camera, that is, we don’t find macro or ultra wide angle for this camera.

Recording up to 210 minutes

DJI offers 360° HorizonSteady stabilization, which ensures shots stay perfectly level no matter what angle you’re recording from, crucial for capturing action on the go, and it does a great job of creating super-stable content. However, the GoPro Hero 13 Black’s hypersmooth is still the market leader and in difficult situations, it outperforms the Osmo Action 5 Pro.

One of the features we love most about the Osmo Action 5 Pro is its improved battery, which offers up to 210 minutes of continuous recording in 4K. And in our tests, even though we left the camera on for hours at a time, it didn’t need to be recharged between outings. In addition, thanks to its cold resistance, the camera can continue to reliably record in temperatures as low as -20°C, which we were unable to verify. DJI’s knowledge and experience in managing its drones’ batteries is clear, surpassing GoPro’s.

The Osmo Action 5 Pro is equipped with two high-brightness OLED touch screens. With a brightness of up to 1000 cd/m2, perfect for use in direct sunlight. Although there isn’t a huge difference, on paper, the Osmo Action 5 Pro has better screens.

Perfect for diving enthusiasts

For fans of diving and water activities, the Osmo Action 5 Pro is waterproof up to 20 meters without the need for a housing, ahead of the GoPro that can only reach 5 meters. Although this is sufficient for a freediver, 20 meters is too short for a diver, and does not make a big difference.

Another positive thing we found on the Osmo Action 5 Pro is that we can link it with its popular microphones, which are used by many content creators, and they work admirably while recording even while running or riding. Bike.

The DJI Mimo application is easy and intuitive to use for downloading and managing videos, and one function we like is the predefined templates, with artificial intelligence, to create very attractive short videos, especially for those who don’t know how or don’t want to. To spend more time editing videos.

Osmo Action 5 Pro surpasses the Gopro Hero 13 block in many aspects, better night image quality, longer battery life, brighter screens and submersible up to 20 meters, on the other hand, the GoPro ecosystem has been working for more than a decade. , the foolproof stabilization is unmatched and the interchangeable lenses give the GoPro a versatility that a DJI camera lacks.
