The Hindu community was targeted
Minority Hindus were targeted, and their businesses, property and religious sites were vandalized and set on fire during the violence that followed Sheikh Hasina’s resignation as Prime Minister on 5 August and her departure from the country. Thousands of Hindus protested in Dhaka and the coastal city of Chittagong in the northeast of the country, demanding security.
A warning was given
Weeks before the start of Durga Puja celebrations, Khaled Hussein, religious affairs advisor to the interim government, warned of strict measures being taken against those who disturb sectarian harmony or target religious places during the festival. The total population of Bangladesh is about 17 crore, and the share of Hindus is about eight percent. (language)
