United Nations For the first time, India supported a UN statement against the Israeli attack on Lebanon. India supported the joint statement of countries contributing to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) which “strongly condemned” the recent attacks on UN peacekeepers in Lebanon. She says such actions must stop immediately. Initially, the joint statement was signed by 34 countries. This statement comes after at least five UNIFIL peacekeepers were injured in recent days.
Let us tell you that Israeli soldiers recently launched attacks in southern Lebanon as part of the campaign against Hezbollah. During this time, several UNIFIL personnel were injured in the attack. “We consider UNIFIL’s role to be particularly important in light of the escalating situation in the region,” said a joint statement published by Poland’s mission to the United Nations on Saturday. We therefore strongly condemn the recent attacks on UNIFIL peacekeepers. “Such actions must be stopped immediately and properly investigated.”
India agreed with the UN statement
India was not initially mentioned among the signatories of this statement. Despite this, India said it fully agreed with the UN statement. “As a major troop-contributing country, India is in full agreement with the joint statement issued by the 34 troop-contributing countries to UNIFIL,” India’s Permanent Mission to the UN said in a post on the ‘X’ website. The security of peacekeepers is of paramount importance and must be guaranteed in accordance with current UN Security Council resolutions. Earlier in a statement issued in New Delhi on Friday, the Ministry of External Affairs said India was concerned about the “deteriorating” security in parts of the West. Asia is “concerned” about the situation. Initially, the joint statement was signed by 34 countries including Bangladesh, Brazil, China, France, Italy, Spain, Sri Lanka and Britain.
Indian soldiers are also working on this mission
One of the reasons for supporting the joint statement against attack on personnel of this mission is that India is also sending its soldiers to this mission. The Polish mission to the United Nations announced on Sunday that India, Colombia, Germany, Peru and Uruguay supported the statement. “At the moment, 40 countries have jointly signed our joint statement,” the Polish mission said in a post on the X website. Thanks to Colombia, Germany, Greece, India, Peru and Uruguay. I am also grateful for Switzerland’s support. As of 2 September 2024, UNIFIL includes a total of 10,058 peacekeepers from 50 troop-contributing countries. India provides 903 soldiers to UNIFIL. The main objective of the United Nations is to achieve stability and lasting peace in southern Lebanon as well as in the Middle East in line with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
