India summons Canadian High Commissioner: India summoned the Canadian Deputy High Commissioner. Canadian Deputy High Commissioner Stuart Wheeler will arrive at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office soon. Canada has linked the Indian High Commissioner and diplomats as “persons of interest” in the investigation into the Hardeep Singh Nigar murder case, a move India has publicly criticized and warned against as “ridiculous allegations”.
India also indicated that this move by the Trudeau government may be part of an attempt to tarnish India’s image. The Department of Foreign Affairs said Trudeau has tried to take political advantage in the past as well. The ministry also gave the example of his visit to India in 2018, where he tried to do vote bank politics.
Canada did not provide evidence
The Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Monday and also asked the Canadian government not to share evidence of the allegations. India has accused Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of vote bank politics for political gain. India said that despite its demands, Canada has not provided any concrete evidence about India’s involvement in Al-Najjar’s killing.
Canada made allegations
The Canadian government had accused India of killing Al-Najjar, and since then there has been tension between the two countries. In September 2023, Trudeau made serious allegations against India alleging that Indian agents were involved in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nigar. India has clearly described these allegations as “motivated”.
