Karachi: Recently, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed in an attack by the Israeli army. A huge demonstration took place in Karachi, Pakistan, against the killing of Nasrallah. This period also witnessed clashes between demonstrators and police. Officials reported this. Officials said that the demonstrators went to the US consulate to protest the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. During this, the police fired tear gas canisters and cartridges to disperse the demonstrators.

March changed course

Karachi Police said in a statement that the religious-political party Majlis-e-Wahdatul Muslimeen called for a march. Senior police officer Asad Raza said that the demonstrators tried to deviate from the planned route and head towards the US Consulate located on Mai Kulashi Road. Police officer Reda said: “When the police tried to stop them and remind them of the path they took to peacefully protest, some of them turned violent and started throwing stones at the police.” Some policemen were injured by throwing stones at the demonstrators.

The police fired tear gas canisters

Eyewitnesses said that many protesters changed course and were stopped by police as they moved across the “original Jetty Bridge” toward the US Consulate. Later, tear gas bombs were fired, and birdshot was used to disperse them. Reporters covering the march in Karachi reported that protesters also beat and injured some journalists and photographers. On the other hand, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry on Sunday condemned the attacks launched by Israel on civilians in West Asia. (Inputs – Agency)
