Three accused have been arrested so far in the murder case of NCP leader Baba Siddiqui. After one of these accused, Dharamraj Kashyap, claimed that he was a minor, the court ordered an ossification test of the accused.
Now the bone ossification test has confirmed that the accused Dharamraj is not a minor but an adult. In such a situation, the police will now present Dharmaraj in the magistrate’s court and demand custody or remand. In a bone ossification test, certain bones in the body are X-rayed and a person’s age is determined based on their structure, strength, and density.
The two attackers in the case, Dharmaraj Rajesh Kashyap and Gurmel Baljeet Singh, were arrested from the spot by the police. Later, the third accused Praveen Lonkar was also arrested by the police. Praveen Lonkar’s brother Shubham Lonkar claimed responsibility for Baba Siddiqui’s murder on behalf of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang on social media. Three accused – Sivakumar Gautam, Mohammed Zeeshan Akhtar and Shubham Lonkar are absconding.
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddiqui was shot dead by three men in Mumbai’s Bandra East area on the night of October 11. The last rites were performed with full state honors at Bada Kabristan on Mumbai Line on Sunday night. So far, the police have included 6 people as accused in this case. Police arrested two attackers soon after the incident, identified as Gurmel Baljeet Singh (23) of Kaithal in Haryana and Dharmaraj Rajesh Kashyap, a resident of Bahraich in Uttar Pradesh.
Mumbai Crime Branch produced both of them in the Fort Magistrate Court on Sunday evening, where Dharmaraj Kashyap claimed that he is a minor. The magistrate court remanded Gurmel in police custody for 7 days till October 21, but allowed bone ossification test to ascertain Dharamraj’s real age.
Dharamraj Kashyap is a resident of Gandara village in Kaisarganj, Uttar Pradesh. Bahraiz SP Vrinda Shukla said that no criminal history has been found so far. Belonging to a simple family, he came to Mumbai to work as a labourer.
Who is Baba Siddiqui?
Baba Siddiqui is a former Cabinet Minister of Maharashtra and three-term MLA from Bandra West seat in 1999, 2004 and 2009 respectively. Currently, his son Jeeshan Siddiqui is the MLA from this seat. Siddiqui, 66, is a prominent Muslim leader from Mumbai who has considerable exposure in Bollywood. Siddiqui has a close relationship with several film stars including Salman Khan, Shahrukh Khan and Sanjay Dutt. His Iftar party is considered one of the high-profile events in Mumbai, attended by prominent personalities from the world of film and politics.

Before the murder, on April 14 this year, two shooters fired five rounds outside Salman Khan’s Galaxy apartment in Bandra.
